Let’s go Bananas ~ The Body Shop

These are the products that YouTube made me buy; I’ve seen so many YouTubers talking about them and how great they are so I had to buy them. I have been using both the Shampoo and Conditioner for almost a month now. I require only a little amount of product because I have short hair. My hair texture is dry and frizzy but my scalp is oily so yeah, it’s a weird combination. Let us get in depth of the review.

The Body Shop Banana Shampoo: It’s a thick textured shampoo ideal for dry hair. It’s colored yellow and smells like Bananas. Personally I like the shampoo a lot; it does keep my hair tamed.

Price: INR 795 for 250 ml

Pros: Paraben-free, SLS and SLES free, Cruelty-free, amazing fragrance (If you like Bananas), tames the frizzy, rough hair.

Cons: Overpriced (Just like other TBS products)

Verdict: 4/5

The Body Shop Banana Conditioner: I know a lot of people love it because I have seen and heard people swearing by this conditioner so I’m going to assume that it’s not the conditioner, it’s my hair. It did not work on me at all; yes! It does make my hair smooth but it causes so much of hair fall. I could not figure out a reason why it didn’t work on my hair but it just did not. Thick textured and colored yellow; smells delicious.

Price: INR 795 for 250 ml

Pros: Smells good, nice thick texture, Paraben-free, SLS and SLES free, Cruelty-free, makes hair smoother

Cons: Causes hair fall, overpriced

Verdict: It’s a bummer that this product didn’t work on me because I wanted it to work so bad especially after hearing so many positive reviews about the product, I had my hopes high but well I’m going to have to give it 1/5 because it didn’t work on me.

Top 5 Dusky-girl Friendly Lipsticks

We’ve already stepped into the Indian-festive season of this year and here’s one thing that we girls can never get enough of: Lipsticks!

Here are my top five picks (For NC 44-45, MAC) that you have to have in your vanity.

Milani Amore Matte Lip Crème (19 Covet): Yes! I’ve started the list with a bold one. This shade will look flawless with subtle eye make-up because you’d want all the focus on your lips.

IMG_20170929_133554913

Price: INR 1050 or £8.33 (I bought it on http://www.beautybay.com)

Pros: Creamy texture (completely matte when dried), vibrant color, does not transfer, stays on for 3-4 hours, cruelty-free

Cons: Feels drying after an hour, starts to fade from the inside if you eat anything

Verdict: 3.5/5

Sugar It’s A-pout Time Vivid Lipstick (02 Breaking Bare): Now, this one is the sort of Pink that you have to have in your vanity. It’s a very warm-toned mauve pink color which will look stunning on most skin-tones.

IMG_20170929_133740288

Price: INR 599

Pros: Long-lasting, highly pigmented, gives you a semi-matte finish, smells delicious, remains as a stain when faded from the lips, cruelty-free

Cons: Not transfer-proof

Verdict: 5/5 (Go for it)

Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Cream (Shade No. 55): This one is the kind of brownish nude that compliments dusky skin-tones very well; you may call this one as one of those Kylie Jenner shades (The World is mad about it and I cannot figure out why)

IMG_20170929_133850686

Price: Between INR 190-250 depending on where you buy it from!

Pros: Semi-matte finish (As it explains), highly pigmented, yummy smell, lasts for 3-4 hours.

Cons: Not sure if they’re cruelty-free

Verdict: 5/5 (Freaking LOVE this baby)

MAC Amplified Crème Lipstick (Craving): No lipstick-list is ever completed without a MAC lipstick; let’s be honest, they’re amazing. This shade is more of a plum-pink sort of a color.

IMG_20170929_133949288

Price: INR 1500

Pros: Crème finish, lovely vanilla smell, long-lasting, highly pigmented

Cons: Not cruelty-free

Verdict: 5/5 (Who am I kidding?)

Colorbar Kiss Proof Lip Stain (001 Hollywood): Last but not the least; we all need that one true red colored lipstick and I swear this is the one for you if you’re of my shade (NC 44)

IMG_20170929_134109085

Price: INR 900

Pros: Beautiful color, pleasant smell, long-lasting, complete matte finish, transfer proof

Cons: Dries out your lips, overpriced

Not sure about it being cruelty-free

Verdict: 3.5/5

Skincare Routine ~ Combination to Dry Skin

I have Combination to Dry skin (Mostly Dry); I strictly follow a CTM (Cleansing, Toning, and Moisturizing) routine twice a day: Once when I wake up in the morning and before going to bed at night. Here are the products that I use (I’ve used these products for more than 15 days, some I’ve been using for more than three months):

Cleanser: I use the Plum ‘Hello Aloe’ face wash. I’ve been using it for almost a month now. It has a very refreshing ‘Aloe Vera’ smell and it’s slightly green in color. It is a gel-based face wash which is more suitable for people with dry-skin like mine. Although it feels refreshing after using it but it does tend to make my skin a tad bit dry afterwards. Nevertheless I absolutely love this product and I’d suggest my dry-skinned people to use it. Plum products are 100% vegan, cruelty-free and free from harmful chemicals.

IMG_20170929_133155186

Plum Hello Aloe Face Wash: INR 345 for 75 ml

Pros: Gentle on the skin, Refreshing smell, Cleanses well

Cons: Not value for money, only available in India

Verdict: 4.5/5

Toner: I use the Plum ‘Green-tea Alcohol-free’ Toner. I’ve been using it for more than three months now and I absolutely swear by it. Although it is made for oily-skinned people but it works in my favor because I tend to get pimples quite a lot; this face wash has controlled them to a great level.

IMG_20170929_133238794

Plum Green-tea Alcohol-free Toner: INR 390 for 200 ml

Pros: Alcohol-free, Refreshing smell, doesn’t sting my eyes, controls pimples/acne

Cons: Not available outside India

Verdict: 5/5 (Go for it)

Day-Cream: I use the Forest Essentials Soundarya Radiance Cream as my day cream on which I’ve done a full-review; click on the link to read it.

Sunscreen: These days I’m using the Lakmé Sun Expert Fairness + UV Lotion with SPF 50 UVB and PA+++ UVA. This sunscreen is meant for all skin types and do not buy it for the fairness purpose (It doesn’t work and it’s just a Lakmé norm to write that word). I like the formulation of this sunscreen. It’s good for dry-skinned people because it has a very thick lotion-type texture and I don’t see it working for people with oily-skin.

IMG_20170929_133338629

Lakmé Sun Expert Fairness + UV Lotion: INR 580 for 100 ml

Pros: Paraben-free, higher SPF count, has Vitamin B3, nourishes dry-skin

Cons: Overpriced, still not over ‘fairness’ fever

Verdict: 3.5/5

Night-Cream: I use the Plum (I know I use a lot of Plum products because they’re wonderful) Grape-seed and Sea Buckthorn Nurturance Night Cream. I have been using it for more than three weeks now although it’s not very moisturizing for dry-skin but it doesn’t dry your skin out either. I have noticed it working on my hyper pigmentation.

IMG_20170929_133316567

Plum Grape-seed & Sea Buckthorn Nurturance Night Cream: INR 525 for 50 ml

Pros: Creamy texture, lovely smell, nurtures the skin (As it mentions)

Cons: Not available outside of India

Verdict: 4.5/5 (I wish it was a little thicker in texture)

Live Irrésistible ~ Givenchy

It’s one of my very first perfume purchases; I got this one from Sephora (Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla). It’s an EDP and I currently have the 40 ml or 1.3 oz version which retails for about INR 5900. I’m someone who is absolutely obsessed with anything that smells like vanilla whereas this perfume is more Fruity.

Let’s get in depth of the review:

  • Packaging: Extremely classy; it comes in this textured glass bottle; the shape of it is slightly triangular. Amanda Seyfried is the face of this perfume (If that is important to you) and the nose behind this perfume is of Dominique Ropion.

IMG_20170928_215728938

  • Notes: Top Notes include Pineapple, Tangerine and Rose Petals; Middle notes include Rose and Passion fruit; Base Notes include Vanilla, Amber and Praline (Based on what my Nose could smell)
  • Longevity: On me it lasted about 5 hours after which it just started to fade, now, keeping in mind that it’s an EDP and not EDT I expected a little more; although the smell faints after about five hours but remains slightly on the skin or clothes (On my pulse points without any Vaseline; I didn’t layer it up)
  • Sillage: I’d say moderate.
  • Verdict: I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars only because I feel it’s not very long lasting whereas Burberry in the same range does a better job at lasting longer. Nevertheless it’s a very Flirty, Girly scent that’s perfect for a date-night or even for Events but I wouldn’t suggest it for office-wear because it’s not exactly very formal according to me but of course it varies from person to person. If you’re someone who likes Fruity, Floral scents then this is going to be your absolute favorite.

Forest Essentials Soundarya Radiance Cream: Review

Okay! Okay, now you can welcome me to the club where people spend a lot of money on Skincare.

I purchased the Forest Essentials Soundarya Radiance Cream (INR 4200) and I’ve been using it from the past fifteen days. Before I go in depth of my review of the particular product, here’s a little background on the brand itself: Forest Essentials is an Indian Luxurious Ayurvedic Skincare & Haircare brand. They manufacture their products in India but they ship outside India as well; for more details on this, visit their official website www.forestessentialsindia.com . Their products are cruelty free but not vegan.

Now let’s come to the review:

  • Packaging: Absolutely stunning; does give you the feel of a luxury product. It comes in a classic glass container with golden lid.

IMG_20170928_215613875

  • Contents/Ingredients: You get 50 gms or 1.7 oz of product for INR 4200. It contains 24 Karat Gold (Yeah, that’s correct) Bhasma (Bhasmais a calcined preparation in which the gem or metal is converted into ash. Gems or metals are purified to remove impurities and treated by triturating and macerating in herbal extracts. The dough so obtained is calcinated to obtain the ashes ~ Wikipedia) and SPF 25.
  • Key Ingredients: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Kernel Cold Pressed Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Cold Pressed Oil, Milk, Glycerin, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Water, Albizia Lebbeck (Shirish) Extract, Clarified Butter (Ghee), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Crocus Sativas (Saffron) Flower Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Zinc Oxid (Yashad Bhasma), Withania Somnifera (Ashwagandha) Root Extract, Boerhavia Diffusa (Punarnava) Root Extract, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, 24 Karat Gold Bhasma.
  • Claim: “Firms and Tones the facial muscles giving the face a natural ‘facelift’. SPF 25 helps neutralize UVA and UVB radiation and protects skin from sun, environmental stress and pollution.”
  • Effect/Result: The cream is to be used as a Day dream as it has SPF 25. I have combination to dry skin (Mostly dry) but this cream makes my face oily. Has a light texture and a very pleasant fragrance although it does sting my eyes while applying. After two weeks of using it, I have noticed that it has reduced my hyper pigmentation to a certain level. Not sure about the ‘natural facelift’ claim, perhaps, I need to use it for a good amount of time to see that result. You need very little amount of the product; it takes a while to get absorbed into the skin so wait for at least ten minutes before applying make-up. If you are going to be out for a long period of time then do apply a separate sunscreen on top of it with higher SPF count.

IMG_20170928_215640501

  • Verdict: I’ll rate this cream 3.5 out of 5; definitely a good product but a tad bit too expensive and it does sting my eyes. Is it worth buying? Only if you can afford it. I will not tell you to save your money and go for it because I believe there are better products in the market with same benefits but at a lower cost.

Beauty Bay of Mini Heart-attacks

For people like me who are absolutely fascinated by the phenomenon called online-shopping; always looking for something new and that is exactly how I came across this site called www.beautybay.com . The only thing that attracted me apart from the make-up brands which are available on the site (Not available in India) is a very lucrative phrase – “Free Shipping”.

Let me explain this site to you a little bit: It’s a UK based site that sells mostly Make-up, Skincare and Haircare products; they have a limited range of products which they ship to India. You get free shipping if you shop for £100 or more. Being the Make-up hoarder and impulsive shopper that I am, couldn’t absolutely resist the urge to place an order which easily crossed £100. Here’s the list of products that I ordered from the site.

Although this wasn’t my first-hand experience with the site; I had placed an order earlier this year but the shipment never reached me. I contacted them on Twitter and they refunded my money (I had paid through my Credit Card) so it all ended in good faith.

This time I didn’t have my hopes too high but I was looking forward to receive the goods. The shipment reached India within the span of six days so I was quite happy about that. Unfortunately I wasn’t at home when they tried to deliver it so I had to go to the DTDC international hub in Sona Udyog (Andheri East) to get my shipment where I faced the horror of customs.

I paid INR 4498 as custom charges. Now, I hadn’t a clue about customs so it did give a mini heart-attack. I thought of not accepting the parcel and return it but well it did have the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit in it so…

Anyways the products were nicely packed although, one of the liquid lipsticks was missing the perforated packaging but it did look new so I didn’t quite mind that but the Lip & Cheek tint by BH Cosmetics had a broken seal.

Overall my experience with the site so far has been a shocking one; I wish (Oh! How much I wish) that they’d write “You have to pay the customs when the package arrives in your country” beside that free-shipping thingy so that people won’t get so greedy.

Will I shop from the site again? NOPE.

Do let me know in the comment-section if you want me to review any of the products; I’ll be more than happy to do so.

Illusion ~ So it ended.

Why is it that every time I visit this city, the air suffocates me?

I try to speak the truth out loud to the world, to everyone, to the people who have done me wrong but I choke on my own words.

So there’s no justice for us? Us who are the victims of lust, desperation and betrayal?

I remember the scent of the monster because he used to be so close to me; we used to lie down together and I dreamt of our monstrous house with huge dogs and a garden and a porch and a little one by our side!

I shed my tears in silence.

Why is it that every time I visit this city, I see you everywhere I go?

The sound of his unusual steps still give me chills in the middle of the night yet I miss them, I keep waiting on hearing those steps again. Oh, please, dear please release me from this pain, take me with you to the land where my mind is free; take me where you had promised to be.

“You had left this city, so why come back?”

I’m here for the settlement of my emotional debt on him; I’m here to be legally free yet to be covered with his scent, his touch, his name, his everything for the rest of my life because I once was…I was his!

“I understand your pain; it’s better you left, you deserve more…”

I deserve better? I deserve someone to love me for who I am? I deserve someone who will not be intimidated by my personality, will respect me, will stand up for me, will fight, live and breathe for me?

“I know I’ve reached the peak of stupidity; I shouldn’t have said all that, you obviously know it already; anyways tell me how is Bombay?”

It’s new but it feels old, I’m surrounded by people but I feel alone.

“Sorry! But do you miss him?”

Not sure which him. The caring one, the abusive one, the manipulative one, the liar one, the lustful one or the one which was my illusion! I miss something, I miss the broken dreams and dishes and promises! You know I had plans? Plans with the monster; I used to stack his selves with my belongings; I did it time and again and I removed them myself…

“Hold on there, don’t cry dear, I’m here, there there”

They don’t stop, even after a year, even when it’s the same would again and again; I was in Love, it was love.

“Do you want him back?”

Always!

“Then why are you here?”

Because he doesn’t exist. The one I loved, the one I’ve ever wanted, the one I’ve given my heart and soul to, doesn’t exist. It’s all an illusion. Why are you here? Why are you consoling me? What do you want? What’s your ulterior motive?

“Perhaps I’m an illusion too; I live in your head”

You can’t be there because you cannot keep up. Can you? Can you keep up with the storm in my head?

“Just think of it as a beginning, a beginning of a new end.”
